Final Message - CBW President
Hi CA Bowling Writer Members,
As my term serving as your president draws to a close, I felt it was necessary to write one final President’s message.
It is with great enthusiasm I welcome Joan Romeo on board as our incoming president! Joan has been such a pleasure to work with on the CBW Board and with all her connections, I know she will boost CBW to an all-new high!! The neat thing about Joan is she is continually involved with the sport of bowling. She is on the road so much, I never know when she is at home, but she is always accessible!!
On to what is currently on the horizon….don’t forget National Bowling Week. This year it has been moved up from being held in late August to July this year. This year it is from July 31 through August 7 and I was told that the reason for the change is because the children are still on summer vacation now and when it was scheduled for late August they were already back in school. And don’t forget that on the final day of National Bowling Week (Saturday, Aug. 7), it is “World Record” Day so log on to www.GoBowling.com to get a free game coupon and get out and bowl that day to help set a new world record!
I’d like to take this time to welcome our three newest CBW members—Cyndee Sutherland of San Jose; Kathy Schulz of Marin County; and, Kathryn May of Tracy—who joined our organization during the State Convention in Fremont this past June. Hopefully we will see some articles generated from these three gals in the near future.
Speaking of writing, don’t forget the time is NOW to get to work on writing a story that will fit the criteria to enter in the 2010-2011 CBW writing contest. Story just needs to be 300-1500 words in length, and something about bowling, and written and published by March 30, 2011 to be eligible. With no restrictions on the story’s subject, except that it has to be something about bowling, we hope to have a lot of entries submitted this year for consideration for the first “Marijane Viat CBW Writing Award”!!
And, currently underway, is our 7th annual “Phone Cards for the Troops” Drive. This has been CBW’s main charity now for seven years and every year the final donation amount has grown! Donations in any amount are gladly accepted and will be used to purchase as many phone cards as we can purchase with what we raise to send overseas to our troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Deadline for sending in donations is December 31, 2010, so that we may get the phone cards purchased and packaged in time to get them to the troops by Valentine’s Day, 2011. Send your donations directly to our CBW Treasurer, Tina “Trailblazer” Martin, 57 Shields Lane, Novato, CA 94947-3877. Check our website as details change and you never know what new information we might be offering regarding this Drive!
If you don’t already receive Bowlers Journal, please consider starting a subscription. This magazine has so much to offer. Yearly subscription rate is $32 and you can join/renew online at www.bowlersjournal.com and they also offer an E-Bowler Weekly to their subscribers that is packed with informative news.
So as I bowl off into the sunset, I would like to also mention to support our CBW sponsors and hope that all of you are getting ready to start bowling in one or more winter leagues. As writers you need to be out there amongst the bowlers to know what is going on and that next story for you to write might come from either a teammate or an opponent!
