President’s Perspective

In preparation for my presidency the past year has included my participation on several committees and attendance at all of the industry’s major events. This has provided me with an opportunity to learn first-hand about many of the important issues currently facing our industry’s leadership. As writers we can accomplish much, if we do our due diligence and stay informed.

Forging new relationships and creating a better working environment with the California Bowling Proprietors as well as the California USBC is a goal, as all will benefit from working together. “Think Globally but Act Locally” will be our motto, as we help promote our state convention and at the same time encourage CBW members and non members to join a bowling league and support our state tournaments. It appears another primary focus this coming year will be our youth bowlers and with that in mind we have created a special new committee focusing on the development of youth in California with Debbie Haggerty as Chair.

It is a special honor and a privilege to begin my term as president of the California Bowling Writers. Our outgoing president, Bette Addington, deserves an enormous thank you from all of us— for guiding the organization so ably and for her efforts in promoting bowling in all of her endeavors. Bette will continue to serve on several committees and will be active in the role of past-president.

Educating and mentoring our members is not only a goal but our mission as well. Thanks to all committee members for your commitment and anticipated contributions to the organization. I feel quite comfortable in saying we are in good shape with the continued support of Jackie Wyckoff editor of the InfoLink and with the guidance of Past Presidents Mary Lynly, Agnes Duffy and Eloise Cottrell.

I look forward to working with a very talented, passionate Board of Directors and am pleased to announce Marianne Evans will be joining us as 2nd Vice President following my appointment of Barbara Metzinger to 1st VP.

I know together we will deliver a banner year.

Please make note the interim meeting of the CBW Board of Directors will take place the weekend of 11/12/2010 in Reno, Nevada at the Eldorado Hotel, one of CBW’s primary sponsors.

To be continued…………………….
